JOB TITLE: Youth Support Worker
REPORTING TO: Senior Youth Worker
DIVISION /LOCATION: Gerrard Cross, Bucks
HOURS: 6 hours per week (Thurs 6.00 pm – 9pm & Friday 6.00pm – 9.00pm)
SALARY: £12.50 per Hour.
The Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust is currently seeking a Youth Support Worker who in partnership with and under the guidance of the Senior Youth Worker will be responsible for the safe and effective management of the Gerrard’s Cross Youth Centre on Thursday and Friday evenings.
The centre will be open to young people between the ages of 8 and 14 years old and our aim is to operate a facility that is enjoyable, all inclusive, and runs an exciting array of imaginative activities and informal education that encourages and facilitates the learning and development of the young people who spend time there. Experience of working with young people which may be in a voluntary role
Ability to build relationships and relate well to young people
Ability to motivate young people and facilitate young people’s learning
Ability to work in a team
Ability to work on own initiative
Commitment to equality and challenging all forms of discrimination
An understanding of the issues facing children and young people from different communities
Qualified at level 2 or above in a JNC recognised Youth Work Qualification or be prepared to undertake
Excellent level of ICT, numeracy, & literacy skills (GCSE A – C grade or equivalent or demonstrable experience)
Main Roles & Duties
Encourage a fun and positive atmosphere.
Provide information and support to young people.
Ensure that young people play an active role in the youth group and deliver a model of youth participation.
Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people.
Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.
Assist young people to express and realise their goals.
Positively challenge oppressive behaviour in young people.
Support young people in evaluating youth work activities and the impact of youth work on their development.
Implement WWSET Child Protection Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy and work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
Monitor and record participant’s attendance
Carry out administrative duties, under the direction of the Senior Youth Worker.
