WWSET U18’s Awesome Per-4-mance

05 Apr WWSET U18’s Awesome Per-4-mance

Wycombe Wanderers SET 4

Tring Athletic 0

On Thursday night when Wycombe Wanderers SET Hosted Tring Athletic; there was a real air of confidence about the squad. Coach Asare freshened up the squad bringing both keepers Aron Kanyai & Ollie Reading, also starts for Josh Ralphson, Sebastian Asare, and Ben Peters.

A very positive start to the game from the young Wycombe Wanderers SET side saw good combinations and spreading the play with Ashley Day proving a real handful upfront with his determination and energetic performance. For all the great football on show the 1st goal when it came was a fortunate one. Skipper and Wycombe Wanderers SET’s only 18 year old player Max Bowles’ 30 yard cross-come shot, beat the Tring Keeper all ends up and went in off the far post. 1-0.

WWSET’s second goal came off the back of a superb passing pattern which eventually saw an aerial ball into WWSET’s number 10, Sebastian Asare, whose chest control and volley pass into Ashley Day left the striker with an opportunity for a shot on goal. Ashley produced a fine strike into the bottom corner. 2-0

The 2nd half saw Tring Athletic’s best period of the match, keeping the ball well and also asking questions of WWSET’s midfield and defence. But WWSET’s 3rd goal arrived after 70 mintues. It was simple yet so effective and straight from the training ground. An Ollie Saunders corner, MoM Pat Coyles decoy run to receive the ball, which dragged 3 Tring defenders out of the box, a near post delivery and birthday boy Chris Porter firing home to give WWSETS an unassailable lead.  3-0

The icing on the cake came 5 mins from time, when Ollie Saunders, who definitely had listened to the objectives that had been set for him and was looking fresh and eager to impress, broke down the left flank beat his full back twice and delivered an inch perfect pass for substitute Louis Fountain to volley home. 4-0

Coach Asare Notes: – Hours & hours have been spent on this squad this season. Every Wednesday at training and on matchdays and when it all comes together like this there is no prouder coach in football. The football club have a great Elite programme which takes youngsters from 6 years old right through to 18. At this level we go into every game behind the black ball, as it is predominantly an U16 squad, giving away 2 years in physicality and experience. The first 30mins was probably our most dominating start to a football match since our away performance at Crawley Green. I thought the balance of the side was extremely well suited for this fixture. The boys worked tirelessly for the 90mins and never lost their focus… outstanding performances from all, but an absolutely standout game from Pat Coyle who lives and breathes Wycombe Wanderers and was the heart beat of our game tonight. It is so important that we keep 70% – 80% of this squad together for next season so they get to enjoy the next stage of their progression together.
