WWSET U18’s 2 – Kings Langley 2

12 Oct WWSET U18’s 2 – Kings Langley 2

Wycombe Wanderers SET 2

Kings Langley 2

Wycombe Wanderers SET hosted Kings Langley, who beat us comfortably in the reverse fixture at the start of September. This game would prove to be a huge indicator as to how the team has developed over the season to date.

WWSET started the 1st half with intent as Ben Peters and Patrick Coyle controlled the tempo by getting on the ball and playing away from pressure. They also created chances for Fabian Garcia and Jed Layman in behind the Kings Langley defence.

WWSET opened the scoring as Archie Goodliff played a through ball behind the Kings Langley defence into Fabian, who successfully holds off the centre back to loft the ball over the on-rushing goalkeeper. 1-0.

Kings Langley win a corner 10 minutes from half time. The ball is bouncing around the box before it falls to the left-hand side of the box, where a Kings Langley player floats a cross over Aaron Kanyai and into the far corner of the goal. 1-1.

Kings Langley almost had a chance to make the score 2-1, WWSET are caught in possession within our defensive third. Aaron prevents a second goal with a superb double save, after which WWSET are able to recover and deal with the attack.

As WWSET start the second half, they look to play to their strengths and make the most of their fast, tricky wide players (Jed and Ollie Saunders) by stretching the pitch when in possession.

After a quiet 15 minutes, Kings Langley drive a long ball towards our centre backs. Archie, unfortunately, mistimes his header to leave Will Nugent 1 v 1 with the Kings Langley striker, who holds off Will and lofts the ball over Aaron into the goal. 1-2.

Wycombe stepped up the pressure to get back into the game, they start to stretch the opposition defence as Jed and Ollie start to create gaps for Fabian, Louis Fountain  and substitute Max Bowles to exploit. Louis receives a headed clearance on the edge of the penalty area and fires a low drive that their goalkeeper manages to push away from goal.

With 5 minutes to go, Fabian creates a great chance by using his close control to cut inside his marker onto his right foot to unleash a powerful strike that the opposition goalkeeper excellently tips over the bar for a corner.

From the resulting corner, a defensive header falls to substitute Louis by the penalty spot, who controls the ball and turns to strike the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal! 2-2 and very well deserved!

The game finishes Wycombe Wanderers SET 2-2 Kings Langley. Another great performance from our young side fielding 10 players U16, four U17s and just one U18, as they finally achieve a result on the scoreboard to match the hard work they have been putting in both during training sessions and fixtures. They now look to take this performance into next week’s fixture Vs Berkhamsted U18s.
