WWSET making a splash!

04 Sep WWSET making a splash!

WWSET have teamed up with the Karima Foundation, with the help of Sportivate funding, to develop swimming lessons for Asian women and girls.

Due to religious customs and beliefs many Asian women and girls are unable access local leisure pools, and struggle to find venues where they can learn to swim, hence why there has been huge demand for this project and WWSET were only happy to assist.

WWSET recognise how important swimming is as an activity; not only is it a great form of exercise but also a lifesaving skill, and we hope our beginner lessons will help both children and young adults learn the basics of swimming over our 7-week project. Plans are also in place to continue these sessions after the funding period to turn our budding beginners into competent swimmers.

We are very grateful to have received Sportivate funding through our local County Sports Partnership LEAP (www.leapwithus.org.uk), as part of the last round of the funding programme. Sportivate was launched in June 2011 as a four-year programme aimed at getting more 14-25 year-olds physically active but due to its success additional funding of £10m per year was invested allowing the programme to run until 2017. This funding has given WWSET the kick start it needed to provide these well needed sessions.

We are so pleased to say the sessions are already fully booked and we cannot wait to get started!
