Sellebrity returns… and Gareth’s set to star!

09 Nov Sellebrity returns… and Gareth’s set to star!

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust are delighted to announce the return of Sellebrity Soccer to Adams Park, with a star-studded football match set to take place on Sunday 7th April in aid of the charity’s ‘Keep Moving Forward’ programme which benefits people with mental health issues.

Fans of all ages came together at the Chairboys’ home stadium in May earlier this year for the inaugural Sellebrity event, which combined stars of stage and screen with former players to raise money for the club’s charitable arm.

Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth is the first to confirm he’ll be pulling on his boots for this season’s Sellebrity fixture, which kicks off at 3pm on Sunday 7thApril.

Tickets are now on sale at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (seniors aged 65+ and juniors under 16) while there’s a VIP option for £35 per personwhich includes a one-course lunch and meet and greet opportunities with the players after the match. Unlike the first Sellebrity match, supporters will be accommodated in the Beechdean Stand, with the option to open additional stands if demand dictates.

All proceeds will support the ‘Keep Moving Forward’ programme, which provides two weekly activities to support local people who suffer from problems with their mental health. These activities encompass a community walk and a physical activity session that utilises movement as a way to learn about our emotions, coping strategies and a chance to socialise with others.

Sam Parker, the community health manager at the Sports & Education Trust, said: “We’re delighted that Wycombe Wanderers and Sellebrity Soccer have agreed to team up again for a second year and to choose us as the beneficiaries of the game in April.”

“While we run a wide range of programmes across the community, the ‘Keep Moving Forward’ initiative is one which we feel is particularly making a real impact on its participants and we are extremely keen to secure more funds to continue to be able to deliver these sessions which have become a lifeline within the community. Therefore we hope as many fans as possible can come along on the day with their friends and families to enjoy the entertainment, help us raise as much money as we can and raise awareness about mental health.”

Gareth Ainsworth added: “I heard great things about last season’s Sellebrity event and I had no hesitation in saying yes when I was asked to take part this year. I might have retired from the professional game but I still love any opportunity to pull my boots on and run down the wing like I used to in my prime!

“The Sports & Education Trust do such fantastic work in the community and while we know it’ll be a lot of fun seeing these celebrities and ex-players battling it out on the pitch, there is a serious element to it and we’ll be proud to play our part in raising funds for the ‘Keep Moving Forward’ programme which helps a lot of people.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Cooper of Sellebrity Soccer said: “We’ve hosted a load of Sellebrity matches around the country and the game at Adams Park last May was particularly enjoyable to organise and take part in, so we’re looking forward to getting some more big names together and supporting the Sports & Education Trust once again.

“Having Gareth on board as the first player to sign up is a great way to launch the event and I’m sure whoever’s playing at left-back on the opposition team won’t get much sleep the night before! But in reality the football and the result comes third behind the fun of the occasion for everyone involved, and the fundraising for a really special project which is run by the charity.”
