19 Jun SATURDAY MORNING CLUB A ROARING SUCCESS!
Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET)’s Saturday Morning Club returned back on 24th April and has proved a massive hit with our local kids in the community.
The Saturday Morning Club is run by WWSET’s experienced and FA-qualified coaches, and is ideal for developing confidence and talent in young footballers, with players kept in close age groups to ensure all players are well-matched in terms of ability and can receive maximum enjoyment from each session. Each session will see them benefit from a series of technique and skill drills, fun and competitive games, and friendly competition where they can test their abilities against their peers. Playing on a 3G pitch is also great preparation for academy setups, into which many of our participants have developed over the years.
As the children arrived in their staggered starts (Ages 5 to 7 arriving first, followed by 8 to 11-year-olds 15 minutes later), they were put into some socially based arrival activities and small-sided games to dust the cobwebs off first thing on a Saturday Morning!
Once the children were suitably warmed up for the session, they were put through their paces in a Ball Mastery session. Each player was given a ball and lots of time to practice possession-based skills – possession is nine-tenths of the law, as they say! All of the children were able to get straight back into working on their skills, flicks and tricks before too long! As always, the session finished with Small-Sided Games where the children could put into practice everything they had worked on with their WWSET coaches that morning.
Andy Homent, Activity Programme Manager, said “This is a flagship session for us here at WWSET and serves as a great introduction to football, as well as a great session to enhance their existing skill level. We were delighted to have such a great turnout for week one and look forward to many more children joining us throughout the academic year”
