Girls Summer Camp Review From Coach Zulaikha

20 Aug Girls Summer Camp Review From Coach Zulaikha

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET) kickstart employee Zulaikha Bi stepped in at short notice to help other fellow coaches with the programme of our Girls Summer Camp. This varied quite considerably from her day job as WWSET Office Administrator, but underlines the flexible nature of the work we do!

Here, she gives her experiences of how she enjoyed coaching and the impact the course had on the girls and talks about the enjoyment.

“I was asked to step up for girls-only summer camp, not knowing what to expect! I’ve never experienced going to a summer camp when I was younger and now was being thrown into the deep end of having to help teach a class. It was one of the best kinds of experience and I absolutely adored every minute. The girls were truly lovely, saw them bonding with each other instantly and had big smiles throughout the week!  I believe that working at summer camps builds creativity, quick thinking, teamwork, and grit. I am feeling a lot more confident than I was at the beginning of the summer camp. It is a great memory for the kids to always hold on to as well as myself.

Through my experience of getting to know the participants at camp, I learned the value of connecting with the kids before teaching them anything. You take the time to build the group and the rest will fall into place. Connection over content is what I’d like to say. It was a great experience getting to know their different characters and pushing them out of their comfort zone. It was great to see them all be more open towards the end.  I would 100% would love to help out again and help bring out the best in the kids at Summer camp.”

Our Summer Camp was organised by our Health and Wellbeing team led by Claire Hawes and Gee Grou, and was a huge success over the two weeks it ran for at The Hive in High Wycombe. Keep your eyes peeled on our lastest news for updates on future camps.

Our kickstart employees have shown great work ethic to help the team since joining, to find out more about our kickstart employees click here.
