06 Aug CAPTAIN OI! RECORDS BECOME A FRIEND OF WWSET
Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (WWSET) are pleased to announce our new sponsorship deal with Captain Oi! Records, which sees the punk and oi label become a Friends of WWSET for the 2021/22 season.
Respected and longstanding Captain Oi! Records has released over 300 albums by many distinguished bands of the late ‘70s and ‘80s including Cock Sparrer, Anti-Nowhere League, The Exploited, Secret Affair, The Selecter, GBH, UK Subs and Toy Dolls.
The label was set up by Mark Brennan, former bassist of The Business, who had previously co-run Link Records and the Dojo subsidiary of Castle Records.
Brennan’s inspiration had been Ace Records, with Captain Oi! targeted at being “the Ace Records of retro punk rock”, reissuing material by classic punk bands.
The label’s remit expanded with the release of newly recorded albums by bands that fitted in with the style of the label, such as Argy Bargy, and new material by some of the older punk bands including Special Duties and Cockney Rejects. Through its Captain Mod sub-imprint, the label has also reissued albums by Mod revival and 2 Tone artists originally released contemporaneously with the heyday of punk and Oi, including the Selecter, Secret Affair and The Chords.
WWSET Head of Fundraising and Communications, Mark Fawkes, reflected on the partnership saying, “It’s great to have Captain Oi! Records on board for the new season. As a rock and punk fan myself, it’s been a really fun series of conversations with the team, I really look forward to being a prt of their journey and having them be a part of ours.”
The Friends of WWSET package was relaunched for the 2021/22 season in August 2021, and we are thrilled to have Captain Oi Records on board. Keep you eyes peeled to the WWSET communications channels for further updates on Captain Oi’s activities.
The Friends of WWSET programme is now open to creative and forward-thinking companies in the High Wycombe area. For more information, or to sign your company up, click here.
