WWSET Confirm Two New Trustees

15 Mar WWSET Confirm Two New Trustees

Wycombe Wanderers Sports & Education Trust (“WWSET”), the charitable arm of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club, is pleased to confirm the appointment of two new Trustees onto its Board.

At the recent WWSET Annual General Meeting it was unanimously decided that the nominations relating to Peter Lerner and Michael Davies would be accepted, and they officially became WWSET Trustees.

Being a registered charity, the conditions surrounding the governance of WWSET in relation to its Board of Trustees are set out in the organisations official ‘Constitution (inc. General Rules)’ document.

Within the Constitution it states the WWSET board will consist of representatives as follows:

  • Up to two trustees nominated by Wycombe Wanderers Football Club
  • Up to two trustees nominated by Wycombe Wanderers Trust
  • Up to four independent Trustees

In keeping with the above Peter was nominated as a representative by Wycombe Wanderers Trust. Peter and his family have been High Wycombe residents since 1998 and after an eventful career of more than 30 years in local government, Peter formed his own consultancy in 2005, specialising in management reviews, training and mentoring within local authorities.

Peter is an accredited Coach / Mentor and also an accredited Mediator. In addition Peter is an experienced School Governor, specialising in safeguarding and equalities, and is hugely passionate about providing the very best opportunities for young people whatever their background. As if this didn’t make Peter an ideal enough candidate, he is also a season ticket holder at Wycombe Wanderers since 2002, and a member of the Board of Wycombe Wanderers Trust since 2018.

Following his appointment Peter had this to say:

“I’m absolutely delighted to have been nominated as a Trustee of WWSET. I can’t wait to not only support the existing superb work that is being carried out by the charity, but also to offer my skills and experience to assist the organisations growth going forward for the benefit of everybody within both the football club and the local community.“

It will come as no surprise to those that know Michael as the General Manager of Wycombe Wanderers FC that his nomination onto the WWSET Board of Trustees came from the football club.

Prior to joining WWFC in 2017, Michael gained experience of managing community teams delivering sports activities in Oxfordshire and South West London, and of securing grants from local and national governing bodies for sports and educational provision.

Michael previously worked for World Rugby and played an integral part in the creation of the global mass participation programme “Try, Stay, Play”; a programme that acts as an introduction to sport and has engaged over 2 million children through 133 countries.  The Try Play Stay model of Get Into Rugby is now widely regarded as one of the largest introductory participation programmes driven by a global governing body to support nations.

Michael wants to build on the closer partnership developing between the Sports & Education Trust and the football club and says of his appointment as a WWSET Trustee:

“In previous employment and volunteer work I have coached, managed and partaken in programmes using sport to help people of all ages, abilities and orientation for personal development and growth. It is a support function that unfortunately too many miss out on the opportunity to use. I am delighted and excited to support the Sports & Education Trust in delivering and achieving their key goals for the benefit of the surrounding community.”

WWSET would like to take this opportunity to not only congratulate Peter and Michael on their appointments, but to also say a huge thankyou to their predecessors Alan Cecil and Reg Rundle who were loyal servants and huge assets to WWSET for many years until their recent retirements.
